Affecting Other - Upstream Connectivity in Miami
At approximately 12:57 PM on Monday, September 27th, a Distributed Denial-of-Service attack in Miami, not directly targeting PaNETma’s customers or systems, began causing degradation of service for all Internet traffic that traveled to/from PaNETma’s network via Miami. The size of this attack is estimated at 40 Gigabit (40,000 Mbps). The operators of the networks where the attack originated and traversed were immediately notified and they began activating counter measures and gradually blocking the attack. Until 1:15 PM, service via Miami was operating at less than 10% of normal available capacity. By 3 PM, the attack was blocked sufficiently to restore service to acceptable levels. By 5:15 PM, the attack was blocked sufficiently to become invisible to PaNETma’s customers. As with external problems in the past, PaNETma's network continued to function normally and no private or virtual private connections were impacted. Should you have any questions, please open a support ticket.
